Back to school means new beginnings for us all. For some of us, this period is new and exciting, while for others, it can be daunting and stressful. When you stutter, it can be a little bit of both. Although it is fun to start anew, seeing friends and classmates, it can also be a time of uncertainty. When you stutter, this can be a period full of disfluency and having trouble getting your words out. School can be the scariest place for a stutterer, but it doesn’t have to be!
It is always good to look at this time of year as a fresh start, but it can also be a time for creating new habits and getting rid of old ones. Growth is always something to think about and look forward to during the new school year. You have the chance to become the best version of yourself and see how far you have come. So, take advantage! Get involved in clubs and join a new sport. Talk to someone new in your class and say hi to people in the hallways. You may not believe it, but a lot of people are feeling the same way you are. See! Going back to school does not have to be so scary or terrifying.
School can be a fun and exciting place for you to become the best version of yourself. So, my advice to you is to put yourself out there and face your fears. You never know what kind of surprises await you when class is in session.
